Below is a picture I took in Edinburgh in Autumn 1998.
The colour of the leaves was unbelievably
yellow, and I regret that it doesn't show better on this scanned photograph.

I made the image right above with
Photoshop5.0.
It looks great, doesn't it?

My family (top)
|
Family
|
To be perfectly frank, I don't think I could have a better family than
mine. My parents are very kind people. My 2 brothers, 2 sisters and I all
get along very well, and I think I am very lucky to have them.
|
|
• My father, Henri
|
: retired. But he has now taken another job as a freelance promotion
inspector because he was getting bored. My father is amazing: whatever you
ask him to make, build or design, he does it skillfully and to perfection.
|
|
• My mother, Joëlle
|
: retired. Looking at her, it is hard to believe she is almost 10 times
a grandmother and has had 5 kids herself. She is very young looking, very
pretty and very hard working. I am very proud of her.
|
|
• Karine
|
: my older sister. She used to work as a vendor. She obtained first
prize as a vendor in our county in France (département called Mayenne) for
her skills at selling things in bakeries. She has since become full-time
mother and works as a registered nanny. She is married to Jérôme. They have
3 sons: Jason, Geoffrey and Timothé, and 1 daughter: Kathleen.
|
|
• Bruce
|
: my 1st younger brother. He is an Electronics Superior
Technician and is married to Eléna. They have two sons, Xavier and Ivan,
and one daughter, Mélinda.
|
|
• Kurt
|
: my 2nd younger brother. He is a Qualified Nurse and loves his
job. His partner, Hélène, is a doctor in pharmacy. They have a daughter,
Madeleine.
|
|
• Anaïs
|
: my younger sister. She is the superbrainy one and successfully
completed her Maths and Social Sciences Masters with an overall mark of
85%! She now works for a large insurance company. Her boyfriend Gervais
has, by a funny coincidence, the same qualifications as Bruce's. Anaïs has
a daughter: Oanell, who is so cute and so clever! A sibling is on its way,
I heard!

This is a picture of my whole
family, taken the day of the wedding of my friend Zabou in June 1996. I
admit the quality is not great.

This is a much more recent picture of
my whole family, taken the day we celebrated my father’s 60th
birthday and my parents’ 35th wedding anniversary, in October
2005. Much better quality! (Amazing the difference a decade of
technological advances can make!)

left to right:

my father, Kurt, Anaïs.

This is my parents' home in
Laval, taken by my sister Anaïs in April 1999.
A huge
garden runs all around the house, extending up to about 25 metres on
the right, 15 metres in front and on the left, and 4 metres behind, where
there is a huge crop field (wheat, maize, clover, beetroot, rye, etc).

My
education (top)
I studied for my
'A' level equivalent in the Lycée Douanier Rousseau in Laval, France, up to
June 1991. Then I moved to the Université du Maine, Le Mans, France, in
September 1991 to study for a Physics degree. I had the opportunity to move
to Sheffield, England, in 1995 with the ERASMUS European
programme to do my Maîtrise de Physique (French Masters).
|
1990-1991
|
French Baccalauréat C
(Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology,
History, Geography, Philosophy, French, English, Sports)
|
My worst memories of an exam. Stress totally blocked my mind, and I did
very badly.
|
|
1991-1994
|
2-year undergraduate course (DEUG A)
in :
Physics
Chemistry
Computing
Mathematics
|
This course was interrupted for a full year because of important back
problems, so I took 3 years to complete it instead of 2.
|
|
1994-1995
|
Licence de Physique
|
Year of hell and hopes.
|
|
1995-1996
|
Maîtrise de
Physique (BSc Hons
equivalent, First Class grade)
|
This year was the best year of my life, as much regarding my studies as
my private life.
|
|
Oct 1996 - Sep 2000
Sep 2004 - Jul 2005
|
PhD
studies at the Astrophysics Group of
UMIST, Manchester, UK.
PGCE studies at the Warwick Institute of Education, University of
Warwick, Coventry, UK.
|
Little did I know before
that that my life would become so enjoyable from then on.
This is where I did my Initial
Teacher Training as a Maths Teacher. This was emotionally, intellectually
and physically very hard. Probably the hardest one year of study I have
ever done. I’m glad I won’t have to do it again!
|
I made another
page for my Curriculum Vitae.
